Blog changes...
I won't be updating the blog as much as last year. This blog will be reserved for movies only. I am currently working on a big movie project. One of my resolutions for this new year is to give an accurate date of completion beforehand so that everyone will know when movies will be complete. I'm also looking for a countdown timer...but I doubt I'll find one.
I will be working on the new Team Blog S.C.U.B.A. more frequently.

Happy Anniversary!!
I wish you continued success in the years ahead. We'll all be able to say we knew you way back when...
Keep it up, Hipster. You're the best!
Bathroom Hippo -- Did I ever tell you that you are one of my favorite bloggers, even if you are a such a naive yung'n -- indeed, practically a baby at 23 -- and from such a strange and remote part of this planet.
Anywho, missed you over on my blog ... perhaps you might have found the comments under my "1001 Arabian ..." entry funny, or at least bemusing.
Congratulations on your 1 year anniversary. I'm sorry I missed the Federalist Society blog since I could've larn'd me a thang ur two.
I've always thought you should have a regular blog in addition to this one where you make these weird movies involving a hippopotamus with a squeaky voice.
Oh, yes, re. your comment about the Earth flipping its magnetic poles, yes, that happens every 200,000 to 1 million years.
Here read this. Learn.
But, no, it has no effect on the climate since the position and polarity of the magnetic poles -- which are currently accelerating in their motion relative to the geographic poles -- have nothing to do with the Earth's axial tilt relative to the plane of the ecliptic (i.e. vis-a-vis the Sun).
The Earth's axial tilt, i.e. obliquity of the ecliptic, is pretty much constrained by the Moon (22 to 24.5 degrees or thereabouts).
This is why, for instance, the Amazon basin and its 50 million year old rainforest ecosystem doesn't end up in a frigid polar place. Good thing for that since that's where the Earth's overwhelming biodiversity that -- in chicken-and-egg-style, or Gaia theory-like -- helps maintain the Earth's stable biosphere.
How 'bout dat?
LM - Thanks Mrs. H! You've been very loyal to me.
Arc - I haven't been away...I've been going to your blog...reading...but haven't had time to comment..or at least produce a thought provoking comment.
The moon is drifting further, approx a centimeter a year? I swear I heard that the magnetic shifts would create a tropical like climate in the North...I can't put my finger on who told me this though.
I use my 5 MPG truck as a nightlight. I keep it running all night. Teasing. Don't even own a truck. I own a Honda Civic 38 MPG.
Yes, the Moon is drifting farther away at about 2 centimeters per year (the figure isn't clear).
The reason has to do with a momentum exchange: the Moon gains orbital momentum at the expense of Earth's angular momentum ... thus, the Moon is getting farther away while the Earth undergoes a looooooong term gradual spin down of about 1 to 2 milliseconds per century (i.e. the length of day increases).
(That 1 to 2 millisecond figure, by the way, is more than offset between the seasons since the Earth's rotation varies by up to 10 milliseconds between its closest position to the Sun (in early January -- about now) and its farthest position (early July) due to NH - SH land-ocean geographic area imbalances and the resulting differential rates of seasonal change of the prevailing westerly winds in each hemisphere.
Re. the Earth and Moon ... the two are effectively a double planet (the Moon is not a true satellite since a true satellite is always falling at a tangent to its parent body -- i.e. it is in a state of constant free fall due to centripetal acceleration while gravity keeps the satellite from flying off into space. This, by the way, is why the astronauts in the space shuttle (which acts as a satellite in orbit) appear 'weightless.' The Earth is very big and very heavy and there is a lot of gravity 200 miles up. They only appear weightless.
Though about 1/5th the size of the Earth, the Moon is only 1/80th or so the mass of the Earth (it lacks iron and nickel in its core)
Long, long ago the Earth quickly torqued the young Moon so that it is tidally locked to the Earth -- hence we only see one side of the Moon (although it in fact is closer to 60 percent since the Moon is not totally tidally locked). On the Moon, though, you see all sides of the Earth.
The Moon -- which was once dramatically closer as explained in standard lunar formation theory -- returns the favor by raising land and ocean tides (the latter being much bigger, of course, 1 meter compared to 1 centimeter for land tides) that act as a drag ... hence the secular long term spin down of the Earth.
The rate of slowing actually is slowing because as the Moon recedes, tides -- which factor as 1/r^3 -- drop in magnitude. (When the Moon was 1/10th the distance right after it formed, ocean tides were 10^3 higher than 1 meter, or 1 kilometer ... that probably helped stir things up enuf at the ocean margins to play a role in life formation.)
Given enuf time -- tens of billions of years -- the Earth and Moon would be totally tidally locked WRT each other.
But the Sun will go red giant long before that and the oceans will have boiled off even longer before that.
But to answer your question, the magnetic poles of the Earth have nothing to do with its climate. As it is, the magnetic field lines probably remain relatively close to the geographic poles due to the geo-dynamo processes related to the relative motion of the molten metallic outer core WRT the molten rocky mantle that creates the electromagnetic fields that form the Earth's magnetic field, without which life would be very problematic due to the Sun's deadly sleet of high-energy protons and electrons.
OK you took me off your links. i'm hurt! I mean it, really, really hurt. Was it the penis enlargement post? Was it because I'm considered an atheist by some people?
I thought we were friends.
You fickle Mormons.
He's funny about his blogger links, L>T. Don't take it personally.
I'm not mad at you. I didn't take you off because you're an atheist. I took you off because I was basically promoting a link with a clear agenda against Christianity. Now I'm all for free speech...but that doesn't mean I have to endorse speech that I disagree with. Other than that...I still like you.
Happy anniversary!
Sea Sickness Saturday wouldn't be so awesome if not for your due diligence.
Wha...?! The moon is drifting away?!
Happy Anniversary, sweet Hippo!!!!
and Happy New Year too! :)

Gyr-
I kind of want to make another.
Pissy -
Thank you very much! You're one of my favorite bloggers!
"HAPPY BLOGIVERSARY!!!"
Wow...you're such a PRO, though...I figured you were around for at least 2 years!

Hope you had good holidays.
Happy new year Hippo and have fun.
Jin: CAKE?!?! FOR MEE? =D
Dino: Yah..I got off my butt and finally linked you. =)
Susan: Woah, nice avatar! Happy New year!
J_G: Those figures change every day! Today it's probably 4...who knows about tomorrow eh? Actually...and Gyrobo is a witness... my other blogger ID is not welcome on at least 7 political blogs. Did you watch the Saddam hanging video? I made some popcorn. Wish we could buy fireworks...but my State won't let me.
If you want to make another one, There's still Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday can be freed up. Those bees are annoying anyway.
Happy New Year!
Happy anniversary Sweet Hippo!
and a wish for a very
Happy New Year!

Lee Ann
I like the bees...reminds me of Zelda.
I've kind of run out of ideas...but something should inspire me soon.
Lee Ann - Happy New Year!
Zelda rules, but it's not enough to make me buy the Wii.
It'll never be enough.
This may shock you:
I haven't owned a console since Super Nintendo TECHNICALLY.
I have beaten Halo 1 and Halo 2 (house I used to rent had XBOX), and I play Snes Roms on computer sometimes...
What if I did a Roboshrub with an animated fire-blade....then you could replace the original roboshrub image with the new one...but it wouldn't have to be flash since it wouldn't be clickable... or he could be doing something and I could make it a clickable flash? My ideas suck right now...lack of Mythbusters.
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year Hippo!!!
I've got inspiration!!!
I'll share if you want me to???
*jin telepatically sends hippo super cool inspiring vibes! ;-)*
Give me a couple days & I've got a nifty SCUBA post!!!
Happy New Year, Sweetie!
**smack**
Happy Anniversary! Wow! A year of great blogging!
Happy 007!
Can I do drink reviews for SCUBA? Maybe a curling report?
I love your movies!
I think "Octobob" is my favorite...it for sure is in my top 3. ;-)
I'll be sure to check out S.C.U.B.A.
Happy New Year!!! :)
Jin - May your new year be filled with chocolate covered naked men.
LM - Not in front of the others!! How's Mentok & the family? Tell the big lug to come back!
Sab - Only if the curling stories are filled with people falling through the ice to their deaths! Or horrible accidents of some nature... hah!
Pissy - Yeah...I worked really hard on that movie...and was very proud of it. SCUBA rules! Happy New Year to you as well! May the Moose be your servant!
