Indeed. But you know, that guy probably lived three lifetimes in his time. How many of us get to wrestle alligators even once in our lives? He did it every day. He did it so often he got bored wrestling alligators and went out to find other things to wrestle.
A few years back when I was preparing to go on a religious mission, I stumbled in a chatroom and met a girl claiming to work at the Beerwah Zoo with Steve Irwin.
Our relationship grew and as I learned more about her and Australia I had a funny feeling that she was lying to me. I questioned her hoping to capture her in some lies (and I did many many times) but she still continued to tell me she was from Australia and worked with Steve Irwin. Months later I eventually caught her and made her confess that she was from Montana. I eventually stopped seeing her but was left with many Steve Irwin stories (some of them true) and videos. I came to admire the man.
Wonderful picture, Hippo. Tis very touching. Made me smile, and feel sad, but in the nice reflective way, thankful to still be here, and hoping he did have a full life. I'm sure he did.
Nice story as well. I'm sorry that girl lied to you.
I even remember the first Montanan who I got into a tussle with, back in 1880. Only he wasn't born in Montana, he was from New York. And his name was Teddy. Teddy... Roosevelt.
I loved watching his shows. He was one in a million and I will totally miss him. I hope they show back to back re-runs of all of his shows from now until infinity and beyond ;)
I think I've seen this pic before, Hippo. Didn't you have it in an earlier post? You really have been a Croc-hunter fan for a while!
I teared up watching old footage of Irwin and his daughter the day after he died. I know what Mentok means about his life being full, and what Tina means about him dieing doing what he loved, but that really is small consolation to an eight-year-old who misses her Daddy. I hope his family is doing okay.
Steve Irwin was a hero to me. Not only did I have a tremendous amount of respect for him, but I watched him as often as I could. When I heard he died I recalled when my dad died. I know what his kids are feeling...except I lost my dad at 17, they are far younger than I was.

My very odd Steve Irwin story:

Nobody can replace him.
Crikey!
Oh I know, that is really sad.
I watched him all the time.
I will miss him as well.

At least some good came of it. :)
Thanks for sharing this thoughtful tribute.
Happy Wednesday,

We've all been burned by Montanans.
Ain't that the truth.

Wait... I'm thinking of the Dakotas.
Curse you, Edmonde!

He will be missed. Guess there is little comfort in knowing that he died doing what he loved to do :)

You said it.
